About

I’m a sophomore studying Computer Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I’m involved in undergraduate research and also assisting a course on campus.

I’ve always been interested in solving problems; crosswords, sudokus, and now programming. My experiences with problem solving have led me to realize that the best way to solve a problem is to break it down.

My interest in problem solving has also driven my passion to create. I’ve designed a web application to calculate travel times between locations for university classes, come up with a startup idea to make coding more accessible to visually impaired programmers, and many other projects. I spend hours on research— and I love it all, from reading countless abstracts to collaborating with my peers and learning about different perspectives.

My experiences have given me true appreciation for hard work and collaboration, along with a commitment to excellence. To me, excellence does not simply mean doing well for myself. I believe that creating an environment where others also succeed is important to any success. To this end, I’m involved with an introductory CS course on campus and CS STARS, a research program designed to broaden participation in CS.

I’ve also been involved with organizations like Women in Computer Science which foster collaborative, inclusive learning environments. Being a student at the University of Illinois has empowered me to start working in fields I find intriguing at a very early stage in my career.

As a woman in STEM, I would like to hope that my success is linked only to my capability. However, I am not just the sum total of my academic knowledge or programming abilities. I am a diverse product of the people, culture, victories, disappointments, privileges and inequalities which surround me.
